Complete fracture of the
fibula. The tibia (big leg bone) is
shifted to the right; ankle ligaments were completely ruptured in the gap
between the bottom right prong of the tibia and the ankle bone and also between
the tibia and fibula.
Surgery the next
day: six screws and a plate to reset the fibula, and one long screw to
re-connect the fibula and tibia and re-align the ligaments. The tibia and ankle bone now fit closely
like puzzle pieces. You can see the
staples where they closed up the skin, and also the cast around the leg.

Ten days later. If you look closely, you can see the
fibula lining up nicely at the break point and also a floating bone chip or
two.
