NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. set a quarterly profit record for a U.S. company Thursday, surging past analyst estimates.

Exxon Mobil (XOM, Fortune 500), the leading U.S. oil company, said its third-quarter net profit was $14.83 billion, or $2.86 per share, up from $9.41 billion, or $1.70, a year earlier. That profit included $1.45 billion in special items.

CNN News Stories Making Me Mad

10/28/08  -  posted by Hogers at  -  0 Comments

So every morning, I open up www.cnn.com and I read a handful of news stories to see what's going on in the world. For some reason today, all of the news stories I read made me mad...at the alleged victims!

Story #1: Senator Stevens Pleads to Voters
Alaskan senator Ted Stevens, recently convicted on felony charges of making false statements to a Senate ethics committee, is pleasing with voters to stand by him as he seeks re-election. Re-election?!? This man should (at a minimum) be thrown in jail for at least a few years. The nerve...

Story #2: Woman Ties Herself to Foreclosed Home
I'm tired of these sob stories of people getting foreclosed on. Why should I bail out somebody down the street when they made a risky financial decision or was irresponsible in their finances? This is bullshit. This particular woman has a property investments business...my guess is that she over leveraged herself during the boom, and got burned. But if she made millions, would she be sharing it with me? If you take risks and lose, then you should pay the price. Fuck this bailout of people's foreclosed homes.

Story #3: Good Samaritan Saves Crying Woman's Foreclosed Home
Another foreclosure, another idiot losing their house. What's this woman's sob story? She got a DWI, lost her job and lost her home. Wait, so we're supposed to feel sorry for people who drive drunk now? Idiots.

Big Givers

Bill Gates and Microsoft get a bad rap for being the evil empire in the tech world…but you have to give credit to the man for being one of the most charitable givers. In the past six years, Gates has contributed more than $3.7 million to charitable organizations. Click here for a ranking of the top 50 wealthiest people.

Steve Ballmer and Rupert Murdoch are at the bottom of the list while Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are somewhat below average.

Nike Soccer

Nike soccer (football) continues to come out with great commercials. The following video is a great example of what it feels like to play soccer in real time (minus the 60,000 fans). You really can't see more than 15 feet in front of you and are almost blind in the periphery.

The next video is a quick look at the best three players on Manchester United (should have been four with Park Ji-Sung!).

Next week's our last Hollywood socccer tournament for the year. So far we're 2 for 3 in winning tournaments. We'll see if we can add one more tournament for the year.
